3 Feb : Four foundations of mindfulness |

Uschi guides us in a meditation evening. There will be a short opening dhamma talk on the 4 Foundations of Mindfulness:
*mindfulness of the body;
*mindfulness of feelings (or sensations) (vedanâ);
*establishment mindfulness of mind (or consciousness) (cittâ);
*mindfulness of mental objects or qualities (dhammâ).
The famous dhamma teaching is set out by the Buddha in the Satipatthana Sutta.

10 Feb : Paramis - Buddhist virtues |

Paramis are virtues which the Buddha advises us to cultivate. They are also called the 10 perfections.
These are not just 'good' things to do, but they are mental tools and capacity necessary for self-liberation. Paramis act as a type of antidote the problems of the 'fetters' or 'hindrances', mental habits which hold us back from happiness and an open heart and mind.

According to Wikipedia, the Ten Perfections (dasa pāramiyo) are (original terms in Pali):
Dāna parami : generosity, giving of oneself
Sīla parami : virtue, morality, proper conduct
Nekkhamma parami : renunciation
Pańńā parami : transcendental wisdom, insight
Viriya (also spelt vīriya) parami : energy, diligence, vigour, effort
Khanti parami : patience, tolerance, forbearance, acceptance, endurance
Sacca parami : truthfulness, honesty
Adhiṭṭhāna (adhitthana) parami : determination, resolution
Mettā parami : loving-kindness
Upekkhā (also spelt upekhā) parami : equanimity, serenity

Susan Groves has qualified as a Core Process Psychotherapist at the Karuna Institute in Devon, England, and is establishing a practice in Plumstead. Core Process is a Buddhist based form of psychotherapy. Susan will share her experience of the value of psychotherapy. The evening will involve some experiential work in 3’s or 4’s.
